He was the superstar who topped the UK and US single charts in the 70s with songs of endearing tunefulness, unabashed sentiment and existentialist musings. Today, Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O’Sullivan continues to be regarded with tremendous affection and his songs remain well-loved around the world.

Gilbert O’Sullivan was born Raymond Edward O’Sullivan in 1946 in Ireland. After forming and joining local bands as a drummer/vocalist, he started writing his own songs, heavily influenced by The Beatles as writers and Bob Dylan as a performer. Calling himself Gilbert, with a very distinctive image, two singles released by CBS Records and one with the Major Minor label, got little attention. Undeterred, he sent a demo tape to Gordon Mills, the man behind Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, who impressed with his song writing, became his manager. The result was his first single on the MAM label, Nothing Rhymed, became a UK Top Ten hit in 1970.

More hit singles and a debut album Himself followed. But it was 1972’s Alone Again (Naturally) that sealed his fame, topping the USA charts for six weeks and garnering three Grammy nominations. Soon after, he got his first three British number one hits with Clair, Get Down and LPBack to Front. Gilbert was named “Songwriter of the Year” at the 18th Ivor Novello Awards, embarked on an 18-city UK tour and a USA tour, performed sold-out concerts, clocked another UK Top 10 hit with Why Oh Why Oh Why and in 1974 won a third Ivor Novello award. Cover versions of his songs continue to be released, in particular ‘Alone Again, (Naturally)’, with the latest being Neil Diamond and Diana Krall featuring Michael Buble.

Gilbert O’Sullivan is as creative now as he has ever been across an outstanding career, and the past few years have seen Gilbert O’Sullivan showcase many sides of his musical personality. Be it live shows with his band, full orchestral performances in the UK and Ireland or exploring Latin music on 2015’s Latin Ala G! album, the iconic songwriter has continued to look to the future while his famous back catalogue has, as ever, won him the respect and adoration of fellow musicians and audiences all over the world. His recent albums, 2018’s Ethan Johns-produced ‘Gilbert O’Sullivan’ and this year’s Andy Wright-produced ‘Driven’ (both awarded 4-stars in MOJO magazine), both entered the charts in the Top 30 and Top 20 and have seen a rightful renaissance and reappraisal of this Irish born, outstanding British talent.

Belouis Some (real name Neville Keighley) singer songwriter from London released his rst album Some People in 1985 on Capitol EMI Records. The album contained the worldwide hit singles Imagination and Some People with the video for Imagination, directed by Storm Thorgerson, causing controversy as it contained full nudity.
In 1986 Belouis Some supported Queen on their “Magic” stadium tour including opening the famous Knebworth concert, one of the largest concerts ever held in the UK and Freddie Mercury’s last ever live performance with Queen. The Belouis Some song Round Round, produced by Bernard Edwards, was included in the 1986 John Hughes movie Pretty In Pink, the platinum selling soundtrack album is on Rolling Stone magazine’s “25 Greatest Soundtracks of All Time”.
Belouis Some headlined his own tour of the USA and Europe in 1988. In 1989 Belouis Some put together The Big Broadcast and toured the UK.
In November 2024, Belouis Some performed his rst full show in 30 years headlining at the O2 Academy Islington, London. This summer 2025 he will be touring across the USA with ‘Lost 80s Live’.

Coalescing in the early 80s and fronted by twin brothers Jay and Michael Aston the band quickly became popular on the indie scene, and by 1985 had established a settled line-up with the additions of Pete Rizzo on bass, Chris Bell on drums and James Stevenson on guitar. Consequently signing to Beggars Banquet they gained a following throughout Europe and the USA. Following the departure of Michael in 1988 and the imploding of their record label, Savage Records in 1993, the band pursued various projects until the 1999 release of a new batch of tracks, in VII. Further touring followed and in 2017 Dance Underwater was released. Produced by Peter Walsh, it featured a string arrangement by Tony Visconti. The band have just released their tenth studio album, X – Love Death Sorrow, to very positive reviews.

British electronic band Blancmange first formed in 1979 but they’re still willing to change and adapt new styles within their electronic framework, which was evident with 2022’s critically acclaimed album Private View. 

Blancmange fuse together an inspiring mix of synthesisers and surrealism, which over the years has created groundbreaking singles such as Feel Me, Living on the Ceiling, Blind Vision and Don’t Tell Me. 

In their post-punk early days, Blancmange made tape loops and experimental sounds with kitchen utensils, before developing into one of the definitive chart-topping British electronic pop acts. Since reforming in 2011, Neil Arthur has harnessed a duality of experimentation and seamless pop melodies to release a staggering 11 albums in the last decade. 

Frankie Avalon started appearing in films in the 1960s; he is well-known for having appeared in the Beach party films of this decade and for a supporting role in the 1978 musical film Grease, in which he sings the song “BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUT”.

The Gap Band was founded by Ronnie Wilson in 1967 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and comprised of multi-instrumentalist brothers Ronnie Wilson & his Brothers, The Gap Band surfaced as one of the most popular funk/rhythm-and-blues (R&B) groups of the 1980s. The brothers grew up performing in their father’s Pentecostal church in Tulsa. There, their mother was the church’s pianist, and the boys sang every Sunday before their father’s sermon. Ronnie, the oldest, started the group when he was fourteen and eventually recruited his younger brothers to play in the band, which they named after streets in the heart of Tulsa’s historic African American business district, Greenwood, Archer, and Pine coming up with the acronym “GAP” The Gap Band recorded their first album, Magician’s Holiday (1974), for Shelter Records, owned by fellow Tulsan Leon Russell. Their success really took flight in 1979 after they moved to Los Angeles. The group scored a Top Five R&B hit with “Shake” (1979), followed by other 1980’s R&B Top Ten hits “Steppin’ Out” and “I Don’t Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Oops, Up Side Your Head).” The 1982 pop hit “You Dropped a Bomb On Me” exhibits their trademark, bass-heavy style and the silky, smooth vocals. The band continued recording into the twenty first century.

The band was originally formed in 1981 by lead singer and guitarist Johnnie Dee. Following the departure of his original lead guitarist, Johnnie met Derry Grehan, and he ended up joining the band. Johnnie and Derry immediately recruited Dave Betts on drums, Ray Coburn on keyboards, and Gary Lalonde on bass. In 1983, the band entered a demo of “New Girl Now” to a Homegrown Contest put on by Toronto rock station Q107. They won that year and this led to a multi album, world wide deal with WEA Canada after being signed by A&R president Bob Roper.

The band recorded their debut self-titled album which was released in July, 1984. The album was an instant success, and with the help of massive airplay, several video’s on MTV and MuchMusic, it went on to sell over 300,000 copies in Canada alone.

Since their debut album, Honeymoon Suite has released a total of 9 studio albums to date, with well over 1 million units sold worldwide. They’ve enjoyed an incredible run of success driven by a string of hit singes such as “New Girl Now”, “Burning In Love”, “Stay In the Light”, “Wave Babies”, “Feel It Again” and “What Does It Take”, to name a few.

They have toured extensively in the US, Canada and Europe with acts such as Heart, ZZ Top, Journey, Billy Idol, Loverboy, Bryan Adams, 38 Special, Jethro Tull and Saga, to name a few. The Blow Monkeys are unique with a career spanning over 40 years. Always making new music, always stretching their own musical boundaries. And so the journey continues. Reformed in 2008 The Blow Monkeys have been incredibly productive releasing six new albums and playing hundreds of concerts. Their latest album “Journey To You” ( 2021) was recorded during ‘lockdown’ and features the extraordinary single “Time Storm” . BMG have also re-released their classic album from 1986 ‘Animal Magic’ as part of their “Iconic” series. It comes as a 4 CD boxset and tasty white vinyl limited edition with extra tracks and rarities galore.

These Monkeys continue to evolve. From their beginnings on the underground club scene right through to their appearance on the biggest selling soundtrack of all time “Dirty Dancing” (You Don’t Own Me) and beyond. Long may they swing.

2025 represents over 60 YEARS of original ska with The Skatalites!! The original members played on hundreds of recording sessions before forming the band in 1964.  Backing most of the vocalists in Jamaica at that time, including Bob Marley, Toots and The Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe and many more The Skatalites secured their place in musical history early on. After disbanding in 1965 the individual members continued playing in various groups as the music evolved from ska to rocksteady to reggae.

In 1983 The Skatalites reunited to play Reggae Sunsplash in Montego Bay and subsequently in London at The Crystal Palace for the U.K version of The Sunsplash event. A few years later they began emigrating to the U.S.A and in 1986 the first US shows began at The Village Gate in NYC. The band supported Bunny Wailer on The Liberation Tour in 1989 and followed it up in 1990 embarking on their first-ever headline tour of The U.S.A.  The Skatalites have not stopped touring the world ever since and continue to be available for festivals, casinos, and intimate venue settings. Their unique infectious brand of authentic Jamaican ska excites audiences of all ages across the globe year after year.

In February, 1977, Julian Junior Marvin was invited to join Bob Marley & The Wailers. The rest is history. The acclaimed Exodus LP became Julian Junior’s debut with Bob Marley & The Wailers. In 1999, Time Magazine declared Exodus Album Of The Century, while “One Love” was named Song of the Millennium in 2000. Julian Junior Marvin was lead guitarist and musical contributor on all subsequent Bob Marley & the Wailers albums, and toured worldwide with the Wailers until Bob’s passing in 1981.

Since then, Julian Junior has released four CDs with The Wailers Band: ID, Majestic Warriors, Jah Message and My Friends (Live),as well as numerous solo projects. China Crisis is an English pop/rock band. They were formed in 1979 in Kirkby, near Liverpool, Merseyside with a core of vocalist/keyboardist Gary Daly and guitarist Eddie Lundon. China Crisis were originally assimilated in the batch of new wave Liverpool acts of the early 1980s, led by OMD and also including The Teardrop Explodes, A Flock of Seagulls and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
